Job Overview

  • Job Title: Information Technology Support Officer (ITSO)
  • Grade: Administrative Officer (AO)
  • Position Type: Full-time, 1-year fixed term contract (with a possibility of renewal)
  • Working Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; Friday: 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM). Note: You must be flexible to occasionally work outside these hours for emergency crisis response or project needs.
  • Salary: USD 2,645 per month (Gross; non-negotiable)

Key Responsibilities

1. Day-to-Day IT Support (40%)

  • Set up accounts and IT equipment for new starters and handle the exit process for leavers.
  • Manage email distribution lists and maintain an up-to-date inventory of IT hardware.
  • Help maintain Embassy IT systems, recycle old hardware, and assist official visitors with IT needs.
  • Coordinate with technical support teams in London to fix major IT issues.
  • Serve as the local point of contact for mobile phones, landlines, satellite phones, and Visa delivery bags.
  • Provide occasional remote IT support to colleagues based in Damascus, Syria.

2. Technical Liaison & Maintenance (15%)

  • Assist visiting Regional Technical Support Staff (RTSS) and complete routine remote maintenance tasks between their visits.
  • Report monthly to the Deputy Head of Mission and Overseas Security Manager to collaborate on IT security.

3. Crisis Operations & Preparedness (25%)

  • Emergency Leadership (15%): Take charge of securing and running IT systems in the Embassy’s secure zones during an emergency evacuation or crisis.
  • Staff Induction (10%): Train new staff on IT evacuation rules, show colleagues how to use emergency communication gear, and ensure the team is fully prepared for any crisis.

4. Tech Improvement & Team Cover (20%)

  • Tech Champion (10%): Help the IT manager share updates and promote IT training sessions so staff can make the most of new technology.
  • Manager Cover (10%): Stand in for the IT Manager when they are on leave and help deliver larger IT projects.

Candidate Requirements

Experience & Background

  • IT experience is a plus, but it is NOT required. We are looking for a reliable team player who is willing to learn, has excellent communication skills, and remains calm when dealing with tech frustrations.

Essential Skills

  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach to problem-solving.

Desirable (Bonus) Skills

  • Existing IT technical expertise or IT security awareness.
  • Prior experience working in an embassy or a similar corporate environment.

Eligibility & Nationality Requirements (Crucial)

  • Security Clearance: To get the required high-level security clearance for this role, you must hold nationality from a “Five Eyes” country (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) OR be a national of an eligible European country who has lived/worked in a Five Eyes or European country for at least 2 of the past 5 years.
  • Visas: The Embassy provides visa sponsorship. However, getting the actual Lebanese work/residence permits and paying any associated costs is your responsibility.
  • Note: The Embassy does not pay for relocation or housing.
